Futures Tour to Hold Tampa Tourney


LAKELAND, Fla, - The Futures Golf Tour, the official developmental tour of the LPGA, will return to Tampa after a 14-year absence. The inaugural $65,000 Tampa Bay's Next Generation Futures Golf Classic benefiting The Vincent Reid Foundation. will be held April 4 - 6 at the $3.5 million newly renovated Rogers Park Golf Course.
The Futures Tour last visited the Tampa Bay area in 1998 for the Cheval Classic in Lutz, Fla. Current LPGA player Jenny Lidback shot a 145 , to edge present Futures Tour player Jan Kleiman by one shot for the $2,600 first-place prize. This year's winning paycheck will be $9,100.
This also is not the first time the Futures Tour has hosted an event at the 6,855-yard Rogers Park. Twenty-one years ago the tour, operating back then as the Tampa Bay Mini Tour, conducted two tournaments at this golf course. Past winners included Meredith Marshall and Caris Lunsfort, who earned checks of $330 and $370.
