It’s May 4, and Felipe Aguilar likely has already wrapped up Finish of the Year.
On Sunday at The Championship at Laguna National, the 39-year-old Chilean came home in 8-under 28, including a 2-2 finish that saw him dunk his approach on the last to win by one over David Lipsky and Anders Hansen.
Said Aguilar, who closed with 62, “It was very special finishing like that.”
After going out in 34, Aguilar ran off four birdies in a row on Nos. 10-13, then tacked on another one at 15. He drained a 10-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th, after his tee shot barely cleared the water, and then holed his 142-yard approach shot on 18. His 22-under 266 total held up after Hansen was unable to birdie the final two holes.
This marked Aguilar’s second career European Tour title, and his first since 2008.
