Advantage, Watson: McGinley pulls out of PGA

Paul McGinley can now give the Ryder Cup his undivided attention.

The European captain announced Monday that he was withdrawing from next week’s PGA Championship because of bursitis in his left shoulder. His doctor has advised him to rest for a “couple of months.”

Tom Watson and McGinley were both exempt into this year’s PGA field. McGinley, who last played at the Scottish Open, has missed the cut in six of his last seven events.

“It’s a pity,” he said in a statement, “because I would have loved to have teed up at Valhalla, but I assessed the situation over the past couple of weeks during my family holiday and I think this is the sensible decision.”
