Bae (66) surprises himself with birdie-eagle start

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Sang-Moon Bae opened with a birdie-eagle start at The Players Championship – and yes, he even impressed himself.

“Super start this afternoon,” he said. “Birdie first hole, eagle second hole. It was pretty impressive. I did a great job today.”

Bae finished with a 6-under 66 that left him in sole possession of third place after the opening round, just three strokes behind leader Martin Kaymer.

There’s no question he’s confident about the second round, too.

“I have a lot of confidence and it's getting more higher. I think I will have a great round.”
