Bae begins 21-month South Korean military service

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Sangmoon Bae reported for his 21 months of mandatory military service on Tuesday in South Korea.

According to his manager, Thomas Lee, Bae now has five weeks of training before he finds out where he will be stationed.

Lee said Bae spent the last few weeks since playing for the International team at the Presidents Cup relaxing with friends and family and waiting to learn his reporting date.

There was some concern over when he would report because there’s currently a waiting list to join the military, but his entrance into the army this week paves the way for his return to the PGA Tour in time for the start of the 2017-18 season.
