PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Play was halted for the day because of heavy rain at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

Brooke Pancake was the leader in the clubhouse after posting a 6-under-par 67, one shot ahead of Inbee Park, Natalie Gulbis and Brittany Lincicome. They all finished with the morning wave.

With heavy showers hitting, play was first suspended at 2:46 p.m. with 60 players, the entire afternoon wave, on the course. Play never resumed before the round was halted for the day. Players are scheduled to be back in position at 8 a.m. Friday to finish the first round.

Joanna Klatten had the best round going among players still on the course. She’s 4 under through 12 holes.

The inaugural Pure Silk Bahamas Classic was played as a rain-shortened 36-hole event two years ago. With 15 inches of rain falling over two days, the course was shortened to 12 holes with the tournament played around flooded holes over three rounds. Ilhee Lee won. That event was played in May. The forecast is better Friday with a 30 percent chance of rain.
