Beljan will battle field, old anxieties on Sunday

LOS ANGELES – Charlie Beljan will make his run at winning the Northern Trust Open Sunday knowing he may have to ward off old anxieties.

Beljan made news breaking through to win the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic in 2012 after being hospitalized in the middle of the tournament for treatment of a panic attack.

A type of eating disorder contributed to that condition.

Beljan, 29, says he mostly fends off those old demons, but they’re still there.

“I can at least handle them,” Beljan said. “The eating disorder, I still can’t stand food. I’m waiting for somebody to put out a pill I can swallow and that will take care of it.

“I still face a little anxiety. Thursday and Friday, I had a little bit. But now, I know what it is, and I know how to take care of it. I haven’t had any episodes, not even close to Disney.”
