DORAL, Fla. – While the WGC-Cadillac Championship begins the road to Augusta National for many players, Bubba Watson’s play at Doral has been a surprisingly accurate precursor to his performance at the Masters.
In 2012, Watson finished runner-up to Justin Rose at Doral and went on to win his first green jacket in a playoff at the Masters.
Last year, Watson finished a stroke behind Cadillac champion Patrick Reed and a month later claimed his second Masters title.
“It's two different golf courses, two different styles of golf courses. You can't even compare them,” Watson said. “So it's just one of those things. I don't know what caused it.”
While there is no comparing Augusta National to Doral’s Blue Course, there is also no ignoring the correlation between the two events considering that in 2013 Watson finished tied for 18th at the World Golf Championship and posted his worst finish at the Masters (T-50).
