Cheyenne Woods gets exemption for LPGA opener

Cheyenne Woods was granted one of two sponsor exemptions to play the LPGA season opener at the Coates Golf Championship Jan. 28-31 at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club in Ocala, Fla., tournament officials announced on Tuesday.

Alexandria Jacobsen, a Stetson graduate who played as Alexandria Buelow until her marriage two weeks ago, received the other sponsor exemption. She has played 48 Symetra Tour events in her professional career.

Woods will be making her LPGA rookie debut after earning tour membership at Q-School last month. She won the Australian Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour early last year and played the Symetra Tour last season.

The Coates Golf Championship is a new LPGA event this year. It’s a 72-hole tournament that will feature a 120-player field with a $1.5 million purse.
