Connelly lifts U.S. to 3-point lead at Junior Ryder Cup


Austin Connelly sank a 75-foot putt on the final hole Monday to secure a point and give the Americans a 7 ½ to 4 ½ lead over Europe after the first two sessions of the Junior Ryder Cup.

The SMU commit’s monster putt gave the U.S. a 1-up win in the match and a 3-2-1 edge in the split fourballs session. The Americans won four of the six matches in the morning foursomes.

More than 3,000 fans turned up for the first day of action at Blairgowrie Golf Club in Scotland. Twelve singles – six boys, six girls – matches will be held Tuesday.

The U.S. is aiming for its fourth consecutive victory in the event.
