AKRON, Ohio – Ben Crane withdrew from the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational prior to Saturday’s third round due to a back injury.
He injured himself during a second-round even-par 70 on Friday.
It’s been a long journey without much of a payout for Crane these last few weeks.
After rising to first on the Open Championship alternate list, he made the long trip to Hoylake, only to never get his name called. He played one round of recreational golf in the area, then headed back home.
Crane won his fifth PGA Tour title in June at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
