DJ, Rory, Matsuyama grouped for Mexico

MEXICO CITY – The year’s first World Golf Championship features a predictably world-class field, with world Nos. 1, 3 and 4 in the day’s anchor threesome at Club de Golf Chapultepec for Rounds 1 and 2.

Dustin Johnson (No. 1), Rory McIlroy (third) and Hideki Matsuyama (fourth) tee off from the 10th tee at 12:36 p.m. (ET), a group ahead of Justin Thomas, a three-time PGA Tour winner this season, last week’s winner Rickie Fowler and Sergio Garcia, who won earlier this year in Dubai.

World No. 2 Jason Day withdrew from this week’s WGC-Mexico Championship with the flu, breaking up the normal pairing of the world’s top-three ranked players.

This week’s event will be the first start for McIlroy since January, and his first official Tour start since last year’s WGC-HSBC Champions, after having to miss the last month and a half with a rib injury.

The world’s Nos. 5, 6 and 7 – Henrik Stenson, Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott, respectively – tee off at 1:53 p.m. (ET) on the first hole.
