Jutta af Rosenborg and Sophie Goldschmidt made history Thursday when they were appointed as non-executive directors of the European Tour. Scheduled to begin their new roles Jan. 1, they are the first females to sit on the European Tour board.
“Their appointment as non-executive directors supports our strategy of broadening and increasing the skills and experience at the heart of the business at a time when golf is changing,” said European Tour chairman David Williams.
The European Tour is in the midst of several changes of its own.
George O’Grady announced last month that he planned to step down as chief executive and that a search was underway for his replacement. The circuit was also dealt a critical financial blow when Volvo ended its sponsorship of the World Match Play Championship and the Golf Champions event in South Africa.
Rosenborg has a financial background, having held senior positions at several FTSE and NASDAQ listed companies, while Goldschmidt is currently the chief commercial and marketing officer for the Rugby Football Union.
