The Evans Scholars Foundation reached a milestone last month when the 10,000th caddie graduated from its college program.
A total of 15 caddies graduated in December, raising the total number of Evans Scholar graduates to 10,009 since its inception in 1930.
The foundation is the largest scholarship program for golf caddies in the country, offering financial assistance for both tuition and housing to students who "show outstanding records of caddying, academics and leadership, as well as financial need." The program was originally formed by the Western Golf Association, and its relationship with the WGA continues today as all proceeds from the BMW Championship - operated by the WGA - benefit the foundation.
With scholarships funded by more than 26,000 supporters nationwide, the Evans Scholars Foundation currently benefits 870 students enrolled at 19 different universities across the country, with that number expected to eclipse 1,000 by 2020.
