As expected, Woods says no to Wyndham

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Officials at the Wyndham Championship confirmed that Tiger Woods will not play next week’s event.

Although it was always a long shot, there was speculation that Woods might consider adding the final regular-season event to his schedule in an attempt to advance to the playoffs.

He is 217th on the FedEx Cup points list after playing a limited season because of back surgery in March and missed the cut at the PGA Championship after rounds of 74.

Woods has never played the Wyndham Championship and will miss the playoffs for just the second time since the postseason began in 2007.

The Wyndham Championship did get one last-minute, high-profile commitment when Ernie Els informed officials he would tee it up next week at Sedgefield Country Club.
