ATLANTA – In a possible preview of what the golf world may see later this month at the Ryder Cup, Rickie Fowler teamed with Jimmy Walker in a nine-hole, four-ball match against Zach Johnson and Jordan Spieth on Wednesday at East Lake.
Although Fowler has had a number of partners in both Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup play, he said he’d like the opportunity to team with Walker, who he shares a swing coach with.
“I talked to (assistant captain Steve Stricker). He was checking in with a few of the guys and we’ve talked amongst ourselves,” Fowler said. “I’ve played with Jimmy (Walker) and I’ve played with (Jim) Furyk and I’ve played with Phil (Mickelson). I thought those were my possible three guys who stood out.”
As for Wednesday’s match at the Tour Championship, Fowler said he birdied the ninth to secure the victory and that Walker recorded five birdies through the first six holes.
