Fowler, Kaufman recharged after spring break trip

AVONDALE, La. – The epic buddies trip to the Bahamas was months in the making.

Rickie Fowler has been a member at Baker’s Bay for a few years and found, to his surprise, that three of his Tour-player friends could swing the trip two weeks after the Masters.

“It felt like it was the right time to be able to get everyone together,” he said. “It had been in the works for a few months. Luckily schedules were friendly and we had that free time. Glad we were able to do it.”

Smylie Kaufman said he was the last one to receive an invite, with Justin Thomas reaching out about a month and a half ago. Their exploits in paradise garnered plenty of social-media attention.

“Rickie has a lot of followers,” Kaufman smirked.

Only Fowler and Kaufman are in the field at this week’s Zurich Classic.

“It’s nice to be able to get away, recharge, reset, and especially to get ready for the stretch that we have coming up,” Fowler said.
