Fowler preps for Honda with 36-hole match against MJ

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Rickie Fowler took a slight detour from preparing for this week’s Honda Classic, opting instead to tee it up Tuesday with NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Fowler and Jordan played 36 holes at Floridian National Golf Club, about 45 minutes north of PGA National. This week marks Fowler’s first start since losing a playoff at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and he used the practice round as an opportunity to study Jordan’s notoriously competitive nature.

“Just watching him and how he handles himself on the golf course,” Fowler said. “You know, how much confidence he has in a game that is not his profession, but how he can kind of, I guess, succeed in some of the big moments when there might be a putt on the line, or he needs to get a ball up-and-down.”

Fowler and Jordan are no strangers when it comes to a friendly match, especially in South Florida.

The two are members at both Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound and The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, where they have played together multiple times.

Fowler added that he spots Jordan 10 shots per round, but he remained coy when asked who won their latest duel.

“We had fun,” he said.
