Fraser, Hend among latest to punch ticket to Open

Marcus Fraser bogeyed the 72nd hole Sunday to miss out on a chance to force a playoff with Lee Westwood at the Thailand Golf Championship.

His performance was still more than enough to clinch a spot in next year’s Open Championship, along with fellow non-exempt players Scott Hend, Anirban Lahiri and American Jonathan Moore.

The 79-man event in Thailand is part of the Open Qualifying Series, which spans 14 events over nine countries on five continents. This week the low four players who finished inside the top 12 and were not already exempt punched their ticket to the July 16-19 Open at St. Andrews.

Fraser and Hend’s first Open came in 2005 at St. Andrews. Lahiri will be making his third Open appearance, while Moore, who was playing in Thailand on a sponsor exemption, played the Old Course at the 2007 Dunhill Links.
