ATLANTA – Jim Furyk lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., but he may want to consider an out-of-town membership at East Lake.
This week is the veteran’s 16th start at the Tour Championship, which has been played exclusively at East Lake since 2004, and he’s finished inside the top 10 five times since then, including his victory in 2010 that lifted him to the FedEx Cup title.
“I'm comfortable with it,” said Furyk of the Donald Ross-design. “It's a defensive-type (putting) style, and you're thinking about not knocking that one 6 feet by, to be honest with you those are the kind of greens I grew up on, greens like that that were pitched real severe from back to front.”
Furyk continues to pad his East Lake resume this week following a third-round 67 that moved him into third place and just two strokes off the lead. He now has 20 rounds in the 60s on the course since 2005.
