Garcia (63) has one eye fixed on Ryder Cup

IRVING, Texas – Sergio Garcia has been impressively consistent throughout his long career, but there always seems to be a little extra motivation during Ryder Cup years.

The Spaniard has missed just one Ryder Cup (2010) since he first played the event in 1999, and last Tuesday he joined a group of European veterans at a team meeting with captain Darren Clarke.

“It was nice to sit around with some of the guys and the captain, we had some good talks and it gets very exciting,” Garcia said.

Garcia, who grabbed the early lead at the AT&T Byron Nelson with an opening 63, is currently qualified off the world points list for this year’s team, and given his record in the event he’d be atop Clarke’s list of potential captain’s picks.

Garcia has an 18-9-5 record in the matches and went 1-1-2 in 2014 at Gleneagles.
