Garcia adds former tennis No. 1 Ferrero as caddie

After a temporary caddie switch paid dividends last year at the Thailand Golf Championship, Sergio Garcia is up to his old tricks as he looks to defend his title next month.

Garcia put his girlfriend, Katharina Boehm, on the bag last year and cruised to a four-shot win. This time around, he announced that he will have fellow Spaniard and former tennis world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero looping for him at Amata Spring from Dec. 11-14.

Ferrero, who reached No. 1 after his victory at the 2003 French Open, retired from tennis in 2012.

"I've played golf with him many times but he never caddied for me before," Garcia said in a release. "We just talked about it and he mentioned about it and we decided to do it. He is excited about it."

Last year's victory came over Henrik Stenson, and it sparked Garcia to a successful run in 2014 that has him up to No. 6 in the latest world rankings. He will look to go back-to-back in Thailand against a field that will include Bubba Watson, Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood among others.

As for Boehm, to whom Garcia got engaged this summer and who will now return to her spot in the gallery?

"Katharina is fine," he said. "She is happy to step aside and support from the sidelines. It always helps to have a friend on your bag."
