Andres Gonzales and Sang-Moon Bae are the first Round 1 leaders of the 2014-15 PGA Tour season. Gonzales and Bae matched 6-under-par 66s to take a one-shot lead over Martin Laird in the Frys.com Open. Here's the status after the first round at Silverado Country Club North in Napa, Calif.

The leaderboard: Andres Gonzales (-6), Sang-Moon Bae (-6), Martin Laird (-5), eight players at -4.

What it means: A good start for two players looking to step it up this season: Gonzales, who finished 11th on the 2014 Web.com Tour regular-season money list, and Bae, who finished 122nd in last season's FedEx Cup standings.

Round of the day: Both Gonzales and Bae made seven birdies and one bogey. Gonzales birdied his final two holes, and Bae, who started at No. 10, made five of his birdies on his first nine holes.

Best of the rest: Scotsman Laird shot a bogey-free 67 for a 5-under total.

Biggest disappointment: Jimmy Walker, one of the more successful players on the U.S. Ryder Cup team, likely hoped for better than his 3-over-par start.

Main storyline heading into Round 2: Things haven't even begun to shake out, with 42 players within four shots of the lead.
