PINEHURST, N.C. – Canadian Brooke Mackenzie Henderson rallied Sunday at the U.S. Women’s Open to take away low amateur honors from Australian Minjee Lee.
Henderson, 16, shot a 1-under-par 69 at Pinehurst No. 2 to finish tied for 10th, which earns her an exemption into next year’s U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club.
“I was almost intimidated the first couple days, and then as I got playing, I started hitting the ball really well,” Henderson said.
Lee started the day tied for third as the low amateur, but she stumbled to a 76 and tied for 22nd.
“The best players in the world are here, and to know I’m right up there is awesome," Henderson said..
