Hogan award winner Kirk wins 'favorite' event

It's only fitting that a former Hogan Award winner would win on Ben Hogan's home course.

Chris Kirk shot a final-round 66 Sunday to pick up his fourth PGA Tour victory and slip one of Colonial Country Club's tartan jackets.

Kirk, the former Georgia Bulldog, took home the Hogan Award, presented annually to the nation's top collegiate golfer, in 2007.

"I’ve always loved this golf course," Kirk said after his round. "This has been my favorite tournament on the Tour since before I was on the Tour and came here for the Hogan Award ceremony."

Kirk's best previous finish at the Crowne Plaza was a tie for fifth in 2012. He tied for 14th last year.

The 30-year-old has now won three times in the last two seasons and will be moving into the top 20 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

"To be a part of the history of this tournament is just amazing to me," he added.
