Horschel (66) improves odds to advance to BMW

RSS

NORTON, Mass. – Don’t tell Billy Horschel that he should be feeling the pressure.

At 82nd on the FedEx Cup points list Horschel is squarely on the outside looking in when it comes to his playoff fortunes. He figures he needs a top-30 finish to crack the top 70 in points and advance to next week’s BMW Championship.

“There is no back against the wall. There are 100 other guys who would love to be in my situation right now, so I’m just trying to embrace it and get better,” said Horschel, who followed an opening 69 with a 66 on Saturday to move into the top five at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Much of Horschel’s relaxed demeanor can be attributed to improvements he has made to his swing with coach Todd Anderson and the pending birth of his first child, a girl who is due Sept. 27.

“I’m either going to go home or I’m going to be flying to Denver and I’d rather be flying to Denver. If not I can go home early and spend time with my wife,” he said.

When he completed his round on Saturday at TPC Boston Horschel was projected at 27th on the FedEx Cup list, a position that could keep him busy for the next two weeks.
