Hot start: Finau opens round eagle-ace

There are good ways to start a round, there are great ways to start a round, and then there is the way Tony Finau began his day Friday at the Tour's United Leasing Championship.

One of the longest hitters on the developmental circuit, Finau started on the par-5 10th hole and promptly made an eagle after reaching the green in two. He then went to the 178-yard, par-3 11th hole at Victoria National Golf Club and sank a 6-iron for a hole-in-one.

The back-to-back eagles sparked Finau's second round, as he played his first seven holes in 7 under to race to the top of the leaderboard in Newburgh, Ind. While he gave some of that progress back on his inward half - Finau's roller-coaster round included just one par across his final 10 holes - the 24-year-old ended the day with an 8-under 64, and at 9 under overall held sole possession of the lead when he completed his round. The final tally: two eagles, eight birdies, four pars and four bogeys - including squares on both par-5 holes on his second nine.

Finau is currently 37th on the Tour money list, with six top-25 finishes and nine made cuts in 12 starts this season. His lone top-10 finish of 2014 came at the Rex Hospital Open last month, where he tied for fourth.
