Humana contender Putnam lands Super Bowl tickets

LA QUINTA, Calif. – Funny how a first-round PGA Tour lead can open a few doors.

A day after saying he was going to next week’s Super Bowl but had yet to acquire tickets, Michael Putnam stumbled upon a pair of passes after a friend accepted them through the Baltimore Ravens’ front office.

Is the Ravens employee an avid golf fan? Not exactly. It’s merely a coincidence that Putnam, a self-described “huge” Seahawks fan who grew up just south of Seattle, got tickets to the big game after opening with 63 at the Humana Challenge.

Nevertheless, Putnam is looking for his own breakthrough after shooting 67 Friday to sit just one shot off the lead at the halfway point.
