Inclement weather suspends Safeway Open on Friday


NAPA, Calif. – Second-round play was suspended at 8:39 a.m. PT at the Safeway Open following overnight rain that has left standing water on the Silverado Resort & Spa.

Most of the leaders had not teed off when play was halted and front-runner Scott Piercy was scheduled to begin his second round at 12:50 p.m. Phil Mickelson was even par through three holes on Friday.

The forecast called for a 100 percent chance of rain this morning, but improves to a 40 percent chance around 4 p.m.
