Inkster, 53, will lead the United States against Europe in 2015 when the matches are played Sept. 18-20 at St. Leon-Rot Golf Club outside Heidelberg, Germany.
Golf World reported Monday that the LPGA will present Inkster as the new captain Tuesday evening at the Founders Cup.
Inkster is the most decorated United States Solheim Cup player. She holds American records for most Solheim Cup appearances (9), most points won (18½) and most matches won (15).
The captaincy seems bigger now with Inkster taking over. That’s because the Americans have lost two Solheim Cups in a row for the first time in the history of the matches. With European defeating the Americans, 18-10, in a record rout at Colorado Golf Club last year, giving the Euros their first victory on American soil, it figures to dial up the intensity of the matches and the U.S. determination to win the cup back.
The European team has not announced its 2015 captain.
