Kaymer slips to five back after 71 in Round 3

IRVING, Texas – Tiger Woods and David Duval are the only guys ever to follow up a victory at The Players Championship with a triumph in their following start. Martin Kaymer did himself no favors Saturday afternoon in trying to become the third.

Kaymer’s 1-over 71 was the highest score among those in the top 15 on the 54-hole leaderboard. This was a day to score, but the German played the par 4s at TPC Four Seasons in 3 over par. After making just two bogeys over the first 36 holes, Kaymer piled up five in the third round.

He sits five strokes behind leaders Louis Oosthuizen and Brendon Todd. Hardly insurmountable, but there are 14 players between Kaymer and the top spot. In many cases on the PGA Tour, it’s not about how far you have to leap, but how many people you have to jump over.
