Ko selects U.S. base near coach

PHOENIX – Lydia Ko has officially set up her American base.

Ko, 16, has moved into ChampionsGate in Orlando, Fla., with her mother, Tina. The move puts Ko close to her new coaches, David Leadbetter and Sean Hogan. Leadbetter’s academy is based in ChampionsGate.

With the LPGA making its domestic start at the JTBC Founders Cup this week, the next 12 events are in the United States. Ko, who grew up in New Zealand, has been looking for an American residence to use while playing the American-based LPGA tour.

Ko opened the year with Scott Lubin on her bag as caddie, but she is working with Mark Wallington as her caddie now. Wallington formerly toted for Danielle Kang, the two-time U.S. Women’s Amateur champ who is also a close friend to Ko.
