Brooks Koepka will have to find another route to the PGA Tour.
The former Florida State standout narrowly missed earning special temporary status with his T-36 at the Valero Texas Open. He needed to finish solo 32nd at TPC San Antonio to meet the minimum requirement for special temporary membership on the PGA Tour (278 non-member FedEx Cup points), which would have allowed him to receive unlimited sponsor exemptions for the rest of the season. He was seven points shy.
The Valero was Koepka’s seventh and final start via sponsor invites. He tied for third at the season-opening Frys.com Open, but he failed to finish better than 19th in his other appearances stateside.
Now, to play on Tour, Koepka will have to rely on open qualifiers and other special exemptions. If he stays inside the top 100 in the world ranking – the 23-year-old is currently No. 75 – then he likely will receive an invite into the PGA Championship.
