Kuchar's house 'great' but using replacement clubs after hurricane

NAPA, Calif. – Matt Kuchar hasn’t been to his house on St. Simons Island, Ga., since Hurricane Matthew roared up the East Coast last week, but he said on Tuesday at Silverado Resort & Spa that he will at least have a house to go home to.

“I’ve not been home, but it’s great, no damage at all. Some friends who rode the storm out checked it out and took pictures and said it looked great,” Kuchar said. “We got really lucky, it looked like the storm surge was going to put a pounding on it, but did not.”

After the Ryder Cup, Kuchar flew to Gary Woodland’s wedding in Turks and Caicos last weekend, but he was unable to return home after the storm because the lone bridge onto the island was closed.

“I couldn’t get home, the island didn’t open up until this afternoon, so I tried and tried and couldn’t get home,” he said.

The real challenge for Kuchar was finding a replacement set of clubs for this week’s season-opener at the Safeway Open because his normal set was at his house.

Kuchar was using a carry bag from the Silverado pro shop, but largely had found replacement clubs that he will be able to use this week.
