NAPLES, Fla. – Stacy Lewis crowned a resurgent year for the Americans on Sunday, sweeping three prestigious LPGA awards.
Lewis swept the Rolex Player of the Year Award, the Vare Trophy for lowest scoring average and the official money title, becoming the first American to do so since Betsy King won them all in 1993. The sweep comes in a year where Americans have won 13 LPGA titles, more than they have won in any single season since 1999.
Though Lewis didn’t win a major championship this year, she won three LPGA titles.
“I’m not saying it was a great year,” Lewis said. “I would have liked to have won a major. That would have made it a great year. This makes it almost a great year.”
It’s the second Rolex Player of the Year Award for Lewis, who also won it in 2012. It’s also her second Vare Trophy. She also won it last year. It’s her first money title.
