Lewis, Wie out early on Day 1 of Women's British


World No. 1 Stacy Lewis will begin defense of her Ricoh Women’s British Open title at Royal Birkdale Thursday with young English star Charley Hull and Japan’s Ayako Uehara in her group.

Lewis, Hull and Uehara are scheduled to go off at 6:52 a.m. local time (1:52 a.m. ET).

Lewis won last year’s Women’s British Open at St. Andrews to claim her second major championship. Hull, 18, who helped the Europeans win the Solheim Cup for the first time on American soil, broke through to win the Lalla Meryem Cup in March on the Ladies European Tour for her first professional title.

Reigning U.S. Women's Open champion Michelle Wie, seeking to win back-to-back majors, is grouped with Sandra Gal and Rikako Morita at 7:03 a.m. local time.

World No. 2 Lydia Ko is grouped with Paula Creamer and Ai Miyazato for an 11:48 a.m. local tee time. World No. 3 Inbee Park is playing with Azahara Munoz and Angela Stanford in a grouping scheduled to go off at 11:15 a.m. local time.
