Lexi, Wie make big moves in latest world rankings

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Lexi Thompson moved up three spots to No. 6 in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings with her victory Sunday at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Thompson, 19, moved over Paula Creamer, Shanshan Feng and So Yeon Ryu in Monday’s release of the newest rankings. That makes Thompson the second highest ranked American woman in the world, behind No. 3 Stacy Lewis.

Michelle Wie, who finished second at Mission Hills, her best finish in a major championship, moved up 14 spots to No. 24. Though Wie didn’t win her first major, she’s continuing to make a strong climb in the world rankings. A year ago, she left Kraft Nabisco as No. 88 in the Rolex Women’s World Rankings.

Inbee Park is No. 1 for the 52nd consecutive week. Park, winner of the 2013 Kraft Nabisco, finished 38th Sunday in her title defense. Park will be making the trip to Augusta, Ga., this week to receive the Golf Writers Association of America Female Player of the Year Award at the annual GWAA awards program.
