Lincicome, one of the tour’s longest hitters, opened with a 5-under-par 67 Thursday at Monroe Golf Club, leaving her one shot off the lead as she seeks to end a three-year winless spell.
Lincicome, 28, owns five LPGA titles, including a major, the 2009 Kraft Nabisco Championship. Her last title, however, came at the CN Canadian Women’s Open in 2011.
“I feel like I was very much in control, especially the practice rounds this week,” Lincicome said. “I could swing as hard as I wanted. I knew exactly where the ball was going to go, which is a great feeling. So, hopefully, it'll all line up this week and we'll finish strong.”
Lincicome’s iron play was equal to her driving skill on Thursday.
“I did hit three shots to about a foot, which was really exciting,” Lincicome said. “Obviously, it's less stressful. If I could just do that more often, the scores would be lower and my stress level would be way down. Hopefully, we can keep that going tomorrow.”
