CHASKA, Minn. – Davis Love III’s name may be on the captain’s golf cart at Hazeltine National, but the U.S. team appears to be led by an impressive committee.

Love said Monday’s post-dinner meeting was dominated by Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, and understandably so given the duo’s history in the matches.

Mickelson is playing his 11thRyder Cup, and Woods is 14-time major winner serving as a vice captain.

“It didn't take them a day for Tiger and Phil to take over in the team room to be telling the stories,” Love said.

Both Mickelson and Woods were members of the U.S. Ryder Cup task force that was formed following the American loss two years ago at Gleneagles, and the duo has been in regular contact with Love throughout the last year regarding potential pairings and team chemistry.

“Obviously Tiger and Phil have had a huge amount of success for a reason, because they know what they are doing. It's nice to, one, get the confirmation, but also get the help from Phil that we are on the right track,” Love said.

On Tuesday, Woods was with the group of Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth; while Mickleson played with Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson and Jimmy Walker.
