McIlroy, Bubba, Stenson commit to WGC Match Play

The top three players in the world – Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Bubba Watson – have officially committed to the new-look WGC Match Play.

With a new date (April 27 – May 3), a new location (San Francisco's Harding Park), a new sponsor (Cadillac) and a new format (group round robin, followed by single-elimination match play), the WGC Match Play is sure to be one of the more intriguing non-major events of the season.

Along with the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 players in the world, Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler had previously committed. The event is expected to draw most of the top 64 players in the world, but Tiger Woods is currently not among them as the 14-time major champion fell to No. 104 in the rankings Monday. Although signs are pointing to Woods playing in next week's Masters after taking eight weeks off to work on his game, he still has some work to do to get back into the WGC events. The former world No. 1 failed to qualify for the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral and has not played in a tournament since withdrawing from the Farmers Insurance Open with a back injury.
