Diana M. Murphy became the second woman to be elected president in the 121-year history of the United States Golf Association during the organization's annual meeting Saturday in San Diego.

Murphy follows in the footsteps of Judy Bell, who served as the USGA president in 1997 and 1998.

Murphy, 59, of St. Simons Island, Ga., will serve a one-year term. She has been associated with the USGA since 1996 and served on the executive committee since 2011.

Outside of the USGA, Murphy is the managing director of Rocksolid Holdings, LLC, a private-equity firm focused on small business and real estate in the Southeast.

She is the second member of her household to serve as USGA president. Murphy's husband, Reg, was president in 1994-95.
