Nelly Korda, the 17-year-old sister of four-time LPGA winner Jessica Korda, announced Wednesday that she is turning professional.

Korda is making her debut as a Symetra Tour member this week at the tour’s season-opening IOA Championship in Beaumont, Calif.

“I've made a lot of great memories in my amateur career, but today is the day I take the next step and start the adventure of playing golf as a professional,” Korda wrote on her Instragram account. “One more step towards chasing my childhood dream.”

Korda was the 10th ranked amateur in the Women’s Amateur Golf Rankings. The LPGA requires members be 18 years old. Korda was granted a waiver of the rule to go to LPGA Q-School in a bid to play the Symetra Tour. That waiver didn’t extend to the LPGA and thus limited her Q-School run through second stage. Korda won the second stage Q-School qualifier. She turns 18 in July.
