Jack Nicklaus will make a rare competitive appearance next month when he joins his son, Gary, in the field at the PNC Father/Son Challenge.

Nicklaus is one of 20 former PGA Tour champions teeing it up alongside family. He will be playing with Gary for the seventh time, having won the event with him in 1999.

"Although I don't play much golf any more, I look forward to every opportunity to play golf with my family," said Nicklaus, 75. "I will be riding the broad shoulders of my son and we'll just see how we do. One thing I know for certain is we will have a blast."

Nicklaus will be joined in the field by Bernhard Langer, who returns with his son, Jason, as defending champions. Langer, who also won the event in 2005 and 2006 alongside his son, Stefan, recently capped an unprecedented third season-long Charles Schwab Cup title on the Champions Tour.

Other past champions returning include Stewart Cink and son Connor (2013), Davis Love III and son Dru (2012), Larry Nelson and son Drew (2008), and Hale Irwin and son Steve (2003). The field will also include Lee Trevino, Lanny Wadkins, Vijay Singh, Curtis Strange, Nick Faldo, Mark OMeara and Nick Price, all of whom are in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Rounding out the field will be Steve Elkington, Fred Funk, Lee Janzen, Tom Lehman, Dave Stockton and Fuzzy Zoeller. Zoeller is the lone participant playing with a female partner, as he will team up with his daughter, Gretchen.

The event will be held Dec. 12-13 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
