AKRON, Ohio – There’s no rest for the weary.
Directly after his WGC-Bridgestone Invitational victory, Rory McIlroy confided that he was planning to head straight to Louisville on Sunday night to begin preparation at Valhalla Golf Club, the site of this week's PGA Championship.
McIlroy said he will play nine holes Monday afternoon and nine more on Tuesday, before a friendly 18-hole match with Darren Clarke on Wednesday.
“I’ve got a rematch with Clarkie early Wednesday morning,” he said. “He’s trying to win some money back off me.”
Though he’s never been to Valhalla, McIlroy has watched the last few big events from the course.
“I remember a little bit of the PGA in 2000. I watched all of the Ryder Cup there [in 2008], but I think the way the golf course was set up then is going to be a lot different from what it will be this week.”
