Open win pushes Kaymer into OWGR top 15

More than three years after ascending to the top spot in the world ranking, Martin Kaymer is back among the game’s elite.

The 29-year-old captured his second significant title in the past month Sunday, earning his second career major in a rout at the U.S. Open. Kaymer, who was No. 1 for eight weeks in 2011, jumped from No. 28 to No. 11. Earlier this season he had plunged all the way to 63rd, but his victory last month at The Players sent him back into the top 30.

The week’s other big riser was Erik Compton, who surged from 187th to a career-best 73rd in the world. The T-2 finish at Pinehurst was his third top 5 of the season, following strong performances at Bay Hill and Zurich. Rickie Fowler, who finished tied with Compton, eight shots back of Kaymer, moved from No. 39 to No. 27 after his best career finish in a major.

Somewhat unusually, there was almost no movement in the top 10 after the year’s second major. Only Jordan Spieth (now No. 9) and Justin Rose (No. 10) flip-flopped spots.
