Opening hole giving players fits at Hyundai TOC

KAPALUA, Hawaii – The opening hole at the Plantation Course may sound like a beast at 520 yards – and yes, it’s a par-4 – but from an elevated tee box without much trouble off the tee, it usually doesn’t affect the pros too adversely.

Until Friday.

In the opening round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, none of the 30 players posted a birdie on the first hole, as they collectively played it in 9 over, with seven making bogey and Billy Horschel carding a double.

For the day, no player hit his approach shot inside of 10 feet and only 14 of the 30 found the green in regulation.
