Carlos Ortiz was named the 2014 Web.com Tour Player of the Year on Tuesday, following a three-win campaign that made him fully exempt on the PGA Tour this season.
Ortiz, 23, became only the 10th player in Web.com Tour history to win three times in a season. He also recorded a pair of third-place finishes and six top 10s, finishing No. 2 on the combined regular season/Finals money list, with $515,403.
Ortiz, who became the fourth non-U.S. winner, beat out fellow nominees Derek Fathauer, Adam Hadwin, Andrew Putnam and Justin Thomas, all of whom are making their season debut at this week’s Frys.com Open in California.
“I am honored to be voted Player of the Year by my fellow players,” Ortiz said. “I truly believe this past season on the Web.com Tour has prepared me for success on the PGA Tour. I had a lot of fun on tour this past year and made many friendship that I will carry well into the future.”
