Central Florida to rename state road after the King

On Thursday, Central Florida Expressway board members approved to rename a portion of  S.R. 408 after Arnold Palmer.

The section of the road from Kirkman Road to Clarke Road in Orlando will be named the Arnold Palmer Expressway if approved by Florida legislators.

Palmer won 62 times on the PGA Tour including seven majors, but his impact on Central Florida was more extensive than just winning golf tournaments. Palmer was widely known for his philanthropy throughout Central Florida, most notably in the creation and development of the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies.

Palmer died on Sept. 25 at age 87.
