Remembering Payne Stewart 15 years after the crash

Tragedy struck the golf world 15 years ago when a plane carrying Payne Stewart and five others crashed in South Dakota, killing everyone on board.

Stewart won three majors in his career, including the U.S. Open at Pinehurst just four months before his death. He will always be remembered as one of the good guys on Tour, excelling on and off the course before his tragic death in 1999. He left behind his wife Tracey, his daughter Chelsea and son William Aaron.

In 2000, the PGA Tour established the Payne Stewart Award, given each year to a player who shows respect for the traditions of the game, commitment to uphold the game's heritage of charitable support and professional and meticulous presentation of himself and the sport through his dress and conduct.
