Report: McIlroy-Johnson charity match cancelled

A Nov. 29 charity match in the Philippines between Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson has been cancelled, according to an ABS-CBN report.

The match, billed as "Dustin vs. Rory: Battle for a Cause," originally featured McIlroy against world No. 1 Jason Day. But last month Johnson was announced as a replacement for the Aussie, who is currently mending an injured back. Now, it appears the match at Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Lubao won't happen at all.

Organizer Salvador "Buddy" Zamora explained that the event won't happen because of a breach of contract by Creative Artists Agency, which was contracted to serve as a liaison between the event and the two players.

"We were very excited to bring this event to the Philippines," Zamora said in a statement. "It would have been the start of bigger things for Philippine golf. However, circumstances beyond our control caused this cancellation."

The cancellation means that this week's DP World Tour Championship will be McIlroy's final competitive appearance of 2016, while Johnson will end his year as one of 18 players at next month's Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
